Prawn Curry with Banana

Eating a banana before an exam is very good because of its high levels of potassium. Bananas are high in antioxidants, giving protection from free radicals and chronic diseases. When you eat a banana between meals, it helps to stabilize blood sugar and it is a good way for pregnant women to reduce nausea from morning sickness.


  • 3 tablespoons curry powder

  • 1 teaspoon powdered cumin

  • 1 teaspoon ginger & garlic mixture

  • 4 tablespoons oil

  • 125 dried shrimps, alternatively, 250 g fresh or frozen shrimps

  • 1 big onion, sliced

  • Some curry leaves

  • 6 green bananas, peeled and cut into 1 cm pieces

  • 2 chopped tomatoes

  • 2 green chillies

  • Chopped coriander leaves

  • Salt


  1. Mix together powdered ingredients, ginger & garlic mixture plus some water in order to make a paste

  2. Heat oil and fry prawns for about 3 or 4 mins, then drain and keep aside

  3. In the same oil, fry onion till transparent, add curry paste, curry leaves and  about 4 tablespoons water, stir fry till moisture evaporates

  4. Add the bananas, 1/4 glass of water and some salt, then mix, cover and cook for 5 – 6 mins

  5. Add fried prawns, tomatoes and chillies and mix, cover and cook over a low heat till gravy thickens and bananas are cooked

  6. Remove from heat and sprinkle with coriander leaves

  7. Serve hot with rice and tomato chutney
